Your gums play an important role in the overall health of your mouth, and they also help anchor your teeth to your oral bone structure. Maintaining healthy gums is essential for maintaining good oral health and a high quality of life.

Plaque and lingering food particles that aren’t removed by your daily oral hygiene regimen can start to harden into tartar. As this bacterial substance builds up at the gumline, it can significantly increase your chances of suffering from periodontal disease.

It’s important to brush your teeth twice each day by working the brush head in small circles around all the surfaces of your teeth. This should take around two to three minutes to fully clean both sets of teeth.

You also need to remember to floss your teeth once each day. This involves gently inserting the strand of dental floss between two teeth. You should then curve it to maximize contact with the tooth before making multiple passes to remove plaque and any residual food deposits. Be sure to also clean behind each of your rear molars as well as along the gumline.
